This is an informative article on bone cancer.

It is estimated that in 2024 bone cancer will kill 2,050 people. Primary bone cancer, cancer starting in the bones, is a relatively rare condition as the bone typically develops cancer as it is spread from other organs. Bone cancer is a mass of unusual cells that grow within the bone; this mass is called a neoplasma. The cancer has two types that is common amongst children and young adults: osteosarcoma and ewing sarcoma

Some typical symptoms of bone cancer include tiredness, weight loss, limping, swelling, and pain in the bones or joints.

Osteosarcoma is the cancer that develops in cells that make up the bones. Often occurring in children and young adults, the cancer can develop in any bone in the body. The most common locations for it to occur are the long bones in legs and arms. The treatments for this type of cancer include surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Patients often see side effects of these treatment methods significantly later, which is why physicians recommend lifelong monitoring of patients.

Ewing sarcoma is the growth of cells within the bones and in the soft tissue around the bones. This type of bone cancer is also commonly found in children and young adults. The most common locations for this cancer are in the pelvis and leg bones, but it can still occur in any bone. Treatments for ewing sarcoma are the same as osteosarcoma, much like most types of cancers.
